Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said in a statement released to MailOnline: 'We're so grateful to all our James Bond fans and the British public for making Spectre's debut in the UK box office history!'
The latest offering in the 007 franchise has taken the UK opening record previously held by Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which was also released on a Monday to £23.8 million.
Meanwhile, James Bond's Skyfall geld the previous record for the highest seven-day gross in UK box office history.
Peter Taylor, the Managing Director Sony Pictures UK, said: 'We are delighted that audiences in the UK and Ireland continue to embrace these stories about one of our biggest and best cultural icons.

'This opening proves once again, that the film world of James Bond speaks to cinema-goers like no other.'
The news comes shortly after Spectre star Daniel Craig admitted he'd love to work with Sam Mendes again in the future, although he stopped short of confirming he'll return to the role of James Bond.
Daniel - who first appeared as 007 in the 2006 hit Casino Royale - said: 'I love working with Sam. I would work with him on any movie.'
Sunday night saw the cast walk the red carpet in Mexico at yet another premiere of the movie.

Replacing Pierce Brosnan, Craig first took on the role as James Bond in 2005 and was the sixth actor to be cast as the British spy.
Although the decision to cast Daniel was met with criticism, Casino Royale, released in November 2006, became the highest grossing film of the franchise, until now.
Now on his fourth film as 007, there has been plenty speculation as to whether the British actor will reprise the role for a fifth time.
However, after previously admitting he'd rather 'slash my wrists' than play the spy again, Craig somewhat had a change of heart.

Dapper Daniel, 47, hinted he would be willing to become the Secret Service agent during a pre-recorded interview on The Graham Norton Show.
When asked by show host Graham whether the almost-guaranteed success of Spectre means so much money will be thrown at him he will have to reprise the role, the award-winning actor said: 'I'll genuinely say that I have never done any job for the money.
‘I can't think about another one right at the moment because we have literally just finished this one.’
He continued: 'Now all I care about it getting the film in front of an audience. But, we'll see.'
