Oprah Winfrey, Alfe Woodard, Garbrielle Union, Naomie Harris, Mara Brock Akil, and Quvenzhané Wallis were all honored today at the Essence Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon and HipHollywood was there to catch up with the leading ladies!

Oprah Winfrey, who received the Power Award, tells HipHollywood, "It's really special because it's Essence, and Essence is me. Essence is every black woman who grew up reading the pages, and every black woman who wanted to be part of something bigger than the world told her she could be."

The always fierce and fab Gabrielle Union was awarded with the Fierce and Fearless Award. "To be recognized for the journey and my evolution from scared young girl, insecure, to fully fledged woman who is living her truth, who is truly fierce and fearless, feels awesome," the actress shares.

The Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon not only celebrates the contributions black women have made to the film and television industry, but is also an inspiring encounter with power and beauty. How fitting that these women gather during Black History month as they boldly stride towards making history themselves!

Stars including Jennifer Hudson, Naomi Campbell and Kelly Rowland stepped out to honour Oprah Winfrey at the sixth annual Essence Black Women in Hollywood luncheon on Thursday.
Talk show legend Winfrey, Beasts of the Southern Wild child star Quvenzhane Wallis, actresses Alfre Woodard, Gabrielle Union and Naomie Harris, and producer Mara Brock Akil were all recognised at the magazine's Los Angeles event.
Speaking after she was presented with the Power Award, Winfrey said, "I am humbled by this day... What a thrill and a delight to see yourself reflected on the pages (of the magazine) when you are a young, growing woman... Essence was my bible... There's nothing better than being honoured by your own... I'm grateful that you have seen me and you have heard me and that what I have said has mattered."
Oscar-nominated Wallis picked up the Breakthrough Award, while actress/model Union was honoured with the Fierce and Fearless Award - and she reduced many in the audience to tears as she spoke about her struggle to fit in.
Rapper Common presented the Shining Star Award to Skyfall's Naomie Harris and said, "This is a reminder of the greatness black women possess... Not that we don't know it, but it's an honour to be amongst it."
The audience, which included actors Mehcad Brooks and Blair Underwood and actress Anika Noni Rose, were treated to a performance by R&B artist Miguel during the bash held at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
