Oprah Winfrey, Quvenzhane Wallis and Naomie Harris honoured at Black Women in Hollywood Awards
Stars including Jennifer Hudson, Naomi Campbell and Kelly Rowland stepped out to honour Oprah Winfrey at the sixth annual Essence Black Women in Hollywood luncheon on Thursday.
Talk show legend Winfrey, Beasts of the Southern Wild child star Quvenzhane Wallis, actresses Alfre Woodard, Gabrielle Union and Naomie Harris, and producer Mara Brock Akil were all recognised at the magazine's Los Angeles event.
Speaking after she was presented with the Power Award, Winfrey said, "I am humbled by this day... What a thrill and a delight to see yourself reflected on the pages (of the magazine) when you are a young, growing woman... Essence was my bible... There's nothing better than being honoured by your own... I'm grateful that you have seen me and you have heard me and that what I have said has mattered."
Oscar-nominated Wallis picked up the Breakthrough Award, while actress/model Union was honoured with the Fierce and Fearless Award - and she reduced many in the audience to tears as she spoke about her struggle to fit in.
Rapper Common presented the Shining Star Award to Skyfall's Naomie Harris and said, "This is a reminder of the greatness black women possess... Not that we don't know it, but it's an honour to be amongst it."
The audience, which included actors Mehcad Brooks and Blair Underwood and actress Anika Noni Rose, were treated to a performance by R&B artist Miguel during the bash held at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
