ROME -- Idris Elba and Naomie Harris, stars of Justin Chadwick's Mandela: Long Walk
to Freedom, will be honored as actor and actress of the year by the upcoming Capri, Hollywood
Film Festival, organizers said Monday.

The Nelson Mandela biopic, which will go into wide release in the U.S. on Christmas day,
will have its Italian premiere at the Italian island festival five days later.

The festival also announced Monday it would screen two other films: Lee Daniels' The Butler --
about a White House butler (played by Forrest Whitaker) who served eight presidents -- and Fruitvale Station, a drama from Ryan Coogler narrating the story of Oscar Grant,
the African-American youth who was fatally shot in the back by a Bay Area Rapid Transit
officer.

Combined with Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave, previously announced to screen at the
Capri Fest, the films form a sort of subplot focused on Africans and African Americans.

"The emotions generated by the death of Nelson Mandela, a global icon for human rights, encouraged us to create a festival section dedicated to films promoting tolerance, solidarity, and respect for migrants," said Pascal Vicedomini, the founder of the 18-year-old Capri festival.

The festival, which takes place on the scenic island of Capri, off the coast of Naples, runs from
Dec. 27 to Jan. 2, 2014. It is traditionally the last film festival of each calendar year and the
first of the following year. In the past, Capri Hollywood Fest honors have been a harbinger
of good fortune for several films.

Idris Elba has received a nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama at the 2014 Golden Globes.

The 41-year-old’s nod for his role as Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom comes after he failed to be recognised in the Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations, which were announced on Wednesday.

The British star is going for a double win – he has also been nominated for Best Actor in a mini-series or TV movie for Luther.

Going for double: Idris Elba has been nominated for two awards in the Golden Globe nominations 2014, it was announced on Thursday

Idris will go up against fellow Brit Chiwetel Ejiofor, who also has two nominations – one for his role in 12 Years A Slave and the other for Dancing On The Edge.

In the Best Actor in a Motion Picture character the pair will fight off competition from Tom Hanks (Captain Phillips), Matthew McConaughey (The Dallas Buyers Club), Robert Redford(All Is Lost).

Competition is just as tough for Best Actor in a TV series as Michael Douglas and Matt Damon have both been nominated for their roles in Behind The Candelabra and Al Pacino has been nominated for his part in Phil Spector.

Idris won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Mini Series back in 2010 for his part in popular BBC crime dram Luther.

The actor’s career has gone from strength to strength over the years, and after making a name for himself as Stringer Bell in US TV show The Wire, he has found critical acclaim with Mandela.

His role in the film, which chronicles the late Nelson Mandela’s life journey from his childhood in a rural village through to his inauguration as the first democratically elected president of South Africa, has won him rave reviews.

It came as a shock therefore that Idris failed to be nominated for anything at the SAGs.
Chiwetel meanwhile had more luck and was nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Male

Actor in a Leading Role category for his role Solomon Northup in 12 Years A Slave.

The nominations for the 71st Golden Globe Awards were announced on Thursday, with Zoe Saldana, Olivia Wilde and Aziz Ansari joining Miss Golden Globe at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Thursday, December 12.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will return as hosts at the awards held on Sunday, January 12.

All eyes were on Rooney Mara as she arrived at Oxfam's charity gala on Tuesday, in a show-stopping white number.

The actress oozed red carpet glamour for day six of the 10th Annual Dubai International Film Festival at the Armani Hotel.

Channeling the pale and interesting look, the 28-year-old flattered her slim figure in the floor-length gown which featured a large peplum neckline.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star's dress included a large ruffle on the sleeve which was balanced out with the simple cut of the outfit.

While her accessories were practically non-existent, it was Rooney's purple lipstick that brought her look bang up to date.

She let the stunning number do the talking, while keeping her dark locks tied back in a sleek knot.

Naomie Harris also stunned on her arrival at the bash in an equally long Monique Lhuillier gown, however hers was a little more colourful.

The pale pink hue flattered the actress' skin tone perfectly, while it also featured a floaty loose-fitting bottom.

The lace neckline included capped sleeves, while her figure was complemented with a bandage-style wrap around the middle.

Carrying a simple metallic clutch in her hand, Naomie's hair was tied back in a half-up style which showed off her dazzling earrings.

Her make-up was kept natural with a silvery blue eye-shadow and light gloss on the lips.

The stars were joined at the event by actor Mark Ruffalo and his wife Sunrise Coigney, according to Just Jared.
