Idris Elba is undoubtedly the man of the moment, with his hit BBC series Luther scaring the wits out of its audience on a weekly basis, plus a starring role in Guillermo del Toro's latest blockbuster, Pacific Rim. But his portrayal of former South African president, Nelson Mandela, looks set to launch his name amongst the coveted crop of Oscar hopefuls.
The first trailer for upcoming biopic Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, co-starring fellow BritNaomie Harris as his wife, Winnie, charts Mandela's extraordinary life, from his early years in a rural village to the moment he became the first democratically elected President of South Africa.
While this first glimpse doesn't give us much footage, it does feature a rather spine-tingling voiceover from Elba, stating. "No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin. People learn to hate. They can be taught to love for love comes more naturally to the human heart."
Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom is scheduled for release just in time for awards season on 3 January 2014 - and based on this first glimpse, we have a feeling it's going to feature pretty heavily...
