Prestigious 'Cinema For Peace' Award For Mandela Film

Jaka Bizilj, Chairman and Founder of Cinema For Peace announced today that the organisation will bestow their

 inaugural Special Honorary Award posthumously to Nelson Mandela and the film Mandela: Long Walk To 

Freedom to celebrate Mandela's vision of universal peace and also commemorate 20 years of the end of 

Apartheid in South Africa.

Bizilj also announced that Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom has been nominated for the prestigious Cinema 

for Peace Most Valuable Movie Award. Previous winners of the award include Lincoln directed by 

Steven Spielberg and In the Land of Blood and Honey directed by Angelina Jolie. 

Since its establishment in 2002, Cinema For Peace has aimed to raise awareness of the social relevance of 

films and to make active use of the influence of movies and documentaries on the perception and resolution of 

global social, political and humanitarian challenges.

Anant Singh commented, "The Cinema for Peace Award recognizes Madiba's exceptional life by honouring

 him and the film. We are extremely thrilled to have the film join Madiba being honoured as the first recipient of 

the Special Honorary Award."

The German release of Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom last Thursday, fits in perfectly with the Cinema For Peace Gala 

Awards ceremony which will be held in the German capital city, Berlin on Monday, 10th February. Producer, 

Anant Singh will be representing the film at the event.

Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom continues its international release rollout, opening today (6 February 2014)

 in Australia, Greece and Hong Kong, followed by Mozambique tomorrow, Finland on 14 February and Turkey 

on 28 February.
