Making a bold statement: Idris Elba wears striped scarf with purple T-shirt and red trousers at Mandela Q&A with Naomie Harris

Idris Elba has played many a serious role, from a drug dealer in The Wire, to the gatekeeper of Asgard in Thor.
But when it comes to his everyday life, the actor likes to shake things up with more than a bit of colour in his wardrobe.
Attending a Q&A at the Apple Store SoHo in New York, Idris, 41, arrived in a purple T-shirt, red trousers and a striped scarf with his Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom co-star Naomie Harris.

Normally it's the actresses who are the centre of sartorial attention for these type of promo events, but Naomie, 37, in her black lace dress couldn't outshine Elba in his colourful outfit.
Not that she doens't get style points for her chic sdress, which she paired with some lace up heels and a simple wavy hairstyle for the Q&A about their new epic movie.
However, it seemed that Idris wasn't just showing his flair for fashion, but also his love for Arsenal, as he wore the red and white colours of the London football team around his neck.

The pair star as Nelson Mandela and his wife Winnie in the biopic, focused on the time in the former South African president's life before he was imprisoned for 28 years.
And according to the Luther star, the ailing statesmen was shown a clip of the film - which is released in the US next week and has generated Oscar buzz for his performance - and was so convinced by the performance that he actually thought he was in the film.

Idris spent hours studying news clips of the 95 year old Mandela to perfect his mannerisms and he also had a dialect coach to perfect his accent for the film.
'There is a scene in the end of film where I am walking,' Idris told ABC News. 'You cannot see my face, but it’s got the shirt and I'm walking up the hill. He said: ‘Is that me?'. How did you do that.'
Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom hits UK cinemas on January 3 2014.
