Video: Miss Moneypenny is on hand as dazzling Naomie Harris unveils new Skyfall train

Boarding at platform 007! Miss Moneypenny is on hand as dazzling Naomie Harris unveils new Skyfall train

When it comes to train travel, 007 history shows that James Bond's journeys never fair very well.
But hardcore fans will get to experience a rail route in spy style on the brand new Skyfall train.
The East Coast operated service, was launched at King's Cross station by Miss Moneypenny herself, Naomie Harris, who admittedly looked far more dazzling than the train on display.

Wearing a blue dress - that somewhat matched the colour of the passenger seats inside - Naomie leaned against the shiny carriage next to a bumper sized image of Daniel Craig as the British spy.
As the first black woman to play Miss Moneypenny, the actress told MailOnline that she is 'very proud to represent women of colour' in the legendary role.
Sadly for passengers, Naomie won't be a permanent feature on the train.

The bespoke vehicle will take passengers on a traditional Flying Scotsman route between Waverley and London’s King’s Cross, on a series of journeys to mimic the one travelled by James Bond in the final scenes of Skyfall.
That journey saw Bond and M travel to his childhood home in Scotland - albeit in an Aston Martin - to face off the terrorist Silva.
All 11 carriages have been wrapped in Skyfall imagery, with the main cast of Naomie, Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Judi Dench and Bérénice Marlohe blown up on the exterior, to celebrate the film's release on Blu-ray and DVD.
And even a platform at King's Cross has been renamed 007 for the occasion.

From Sunday morning, train travellers will be able to book a seat on the train and enjoy all the special features it has been fitted with.
Erik Lorincz designed the Martini cocktails seen in Skyfall and they will be served at the special bar on board.
They can be enjoyed at a passenger's seat or in the dedicated screening carriage that will show the box-office hit.
SkyFall is out on DVD & Blu-Ray from Monday 18th February.

Skyfall Naomie Harris interview: "I can finally say I'm   Miss Moneypenny" - Digital Spy

Naomie Harris has spoken to Digital Spy about becoming the new Miss Moneypenny in Skyfall.

The British actress, whose big screen credits include 28 Days Later and Pirates of the Caribbean, leapt into the James Bond franchise as MI6 field agent Eve, a role shrouded in secrecy by the film's production team.

After multiple auditions, Harris was told by director Sam Mendes and producer Barbara Broccoli that Skyfall would reintroduce several key characters from the series' past, and she would step into a role previously played by Lois Maxwell, Caroline Bliss and Samantha Bond.

"I had to keep everything a secret for ages," Harris told Digital Spy during the inaugural East Coast Trains journey from London to Edinburgh.

"Even when I'd just got given the role I was told that I couldn't tell anyone, so it's nice now to be free of all [the secrecy] and just say, 'Yes, I am Miss Moneypenny!'"

Harris admitted that her favourite scene to film was the cutthroat shaving sequence with Daniel Craig because it provided an "intimate" break from all the high-octane action set pieces.

The moment has prompted much debate among 007 fans about whether or not Bond and Moneypenny spent the night together.

Harris offered up her own theory on the ambiguous scene, saying: "In the script they don't because they get interrupted and it never happens.

"That was cut out of the script and it was left up to the viewers' imaginations, but in my mind nothing happened. I think it would spoil their relationship, it's nice that they have that sexual tension that they've never actually fulfilled."

Skyfall is out on Blu-ray and DVD now from MGM and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.

Naomie's Interview starts at

17 minutes

Empire Podcast, Naomie Harris, Olga Kurylenko
Two Bond girls made their way to the Empire Podcast this week: two whole, real-life Bond girls. It might seem like we planned this, but that's just not true - it turns out Terrence Malick's To The Wonder, which happens to starQuantum Of Solace's Olga Kurylenko, is out in cinemas this week, andSkyfall is coming out on DVD and Blu-ray, so that's why Naomie Harris was in town.
Elsewhere, the team review Song For MarionCloud Atlas and Mama, with the news section full of stories about apes and Mark Hamill's possible return to the Star Wars universe. Not forgetting your readers questions and an astonishing Olga anecdote from Phil which is nigh-on guaranteed to make you laugh*.

P.S. Don't forget to check out our podcast photo gallery here and subscribe to the Empire Podcast via our iTunes page or this handy RSS feed.
P.P.S. If you're wondering about the Skyfall photo with the nonplussed Turkish woman we mention in the podcast, you can take a closer look at it here.
*We reserve the right for this sentence to turn out not to be true.

 Naomie Harris - Spoilers

If you haven't watched Skyfall, click away now - to this 23 movie-strongJames Bond Travel Map, for example. If you have watched Skyfall, however, prepare to enjoy this week's Naomie Harris-starring Empire Podcast, which you can check out both thisaway and at the bottom of this news story.
Ms. Harris said quite a few interesting things about Skyfall, all of which can be found in the podcast proper, but just as a teaser here are a few moments written out in text for your reading pleasure. Again, if you haven't seenSkyfall, please leave the proverbial building.
On the topic of whether Eve and Bond actually had sex after the cut-throat razor shaving scene: "That scene actually got cut short. It was originally cut so that you would know categorically that nothing happened, and then they re-edited it so they left it a bit more open." In other words, those suggestive fireworks at the casino? They did not signify sexytime.
On where she would like the Moneypenny character to go in future instalments: "I'd like her to go back into the field, I think, because I got so much stick for being a terrible shot, a terrible driver, not really a great agent. I want to prove everyone wrong."
We also asked Naomie about whether she was aware of the photo above, and in particular whether she realised what an incredible co-star she had in Incredibly Nonplussed Turkish Lady. For her response, listen to the Empire Podcast, and be quick about it...

IGN Exclusive: Skyfall Train interview with Naomie

IGN Exclusive: New James Bond @TillyTweets on the #skyfalltrain with Naomie Harris. Spoiler-heavy Q&A to follow...

Naomie Harris Discusses The Future of Miss Moneypenny

The actress talks about her memorable role in Skyfall.

While attending the launch of the newly branded Skyfall train - which travels from London to Edinburgh to celebrate the success of the latest Bond film - we grabbed the chance to sit down with Naomie Harris and have a chat about her role as Miss Moneypenny in the film.
When the film hit cinemas the nature of her role was a secret, so to coincide with the Blu-ray and DVD release of the film this week, the actress has finally been allowed to talk about taking on the iconic role as well as the future of the character...
IGN:  When did you find out that your character Eve is, in fact, Miss Moneypenny?
Naomie Harris: I found out at the third audition. So for the first two auditions I interviewed using scenes from previous Bond movies. Like the train scene in Casino Royale. And then in the third audition I worked with a scene from Skyfall. And then [director] Sam [Mendes] and [producer] Barbara [Broccoli] sat me down and explained that the character was not quite what she seemed. That there were a few twists and turns, and that she was Miss Moneypenny. And they asked me how I felt about that and I was excited already, but then I was even more excited.
IGN: How long did you have to keep that fact a secret?
Harris: Well not even during press when it was being launched in November. So it’s only now really that I can actually talk about it.
IGN: did you have any close shaves?
Harris: No, not at all. I was very good.
IGN: Why is now right time to bring the character back?
Harris: I think because Skyfall is about going back to the grass-roots of Ian Fleming. And Moneypenny is a big part of that. So it’s about bringing back all those old elements. Having more humour. Bringing back the classic Bond villain. And then re-vamping them. Making them modern and giving them a modern twist.
IGN: Did you study the previous Moneypennys?
Harris: I totally wanted to ignore that. They said to me that one of the things they wanted and one of the reasons I was being cast was for a breath of fresh air with the character. And so they wanted something very modern and fresh and original. And so I thought that if I went back and watched all those things I’m going to get influenced to play it like that, and I didn’t want to do that. But also I grew up watching Bond movies, and so it’s not like I really needed to go back and watch them. They were still engrained in my mind.

IGN's Chris Tilly speaks to Naomie Harris on the Skyfall train.
IGN: Have you met the actresses who previously played the character?
Harris: Yes – well I’ve met Samantha Bond.
IGN: Did you discuss playing such an iconic character?
Harris: Do you know what, we have only seen each other at events and said ‘hi’ and ‘bye’ and not really had a proper chat. That’s a good point – next time I see her I’m going to have a proper chat with her about it!
IGN: Apart from the obvious action in the field, how is your Moneypenny different from the previous incarnations?
Harris: Well they were always really feisty, and a kind of equal to Bond. But I suppose you’re missing the maternal elements. There was always a bit of a maternal thing going on as well as the flirtation with the previous Moneypennys.  Mainly it’s that she’s not only an equal intellectually, but she also has that awareness of the field as well, which means they share even more and have a greater bond because of that.
IGN: Rumours have recently been circulating that Sam Mendes might return to direct the next instalment – would you like to see him back?
Harris: I’d definitely like to see him direct another one – I think most people would as well. He brought a breath of fresh air. He’s a fan of the movies first and foremost. So he wanted to deconstruct it, but in an incredibly sensitive way. And he wanted to go back to the grass-roots of Bond, and make sure that he had those classical elements, and make more of a feature of them as well as putting a modern twist on them. I love the fact that he was respectful of Ian Fleming as well as respectful of the fact that Bond has to respect the times. And be modern. He was able to do that, which sounds easy but isn’t. It’s walking a very thin tightrope.
IGN: With Moneypenny potentially being a recurring character again, have you signed up for multiple films?
Harris: I can’t really talk about that – I need to find out what the situation is.
IGN: How about a hypothetical then – if the character returns for Bond 24, what would you like to see her doing?
Harris: Well, she’s ended up behind a desk, so I think the natural thing is to explore that for a while. But then maybe get back out in the field and make amends because she messed up pretty badly. It would be nice to see her shown as capable, because she is a capable field agent. It was just very difficult circumstances taking that shot. Which everyone likes to bring up and take the mickey out of me about.
IGN: Why did you take the shot?
Harris: Because she told me to! Because she said ‘Take the bloody shot!’
IGN: What about the idea of Moneypenny teaming up with Bond and M in the field?
Harris: Yeah, that would be really cool I definitely think getting back into the field would be a really good idea. But I didn’t even think of doing it with M as well.
IGN: You could form a Mission: Impossible-style team.
Harris: I hadn’t even thought of that. I like it. Have a word with the writers!

Video: Skyfall Train and Naomie interview + Spoilers - ITN 18.2.13

Skyfall gets its own train.

Published on 18 Feb 2013
After winning a Bafta and making enough money to buy hundreds of Aston Martin DB5s, Skyfall has finally come out on Blu-ray and DVD.

But Bond 23's biggest achievement so far is not the stacks of cash its been generating, or the small bronze trophy it picked up in London

Instead, its biggest achievement came in the form of a special James Bond train, which will actually ferry passengers from London to Scotland, the journey 007 and M take in Skyfall.

Not many movies can say they have their own train, can they?

Bond girl Naomie Harris, whose character Eve is revealed as the new Miss Moneypenny, took the first journey on board the locomotive.

She admitted to being surprised the movie has done so well.

"I knew how well it did in the UK but I didn't realise worldwide it did... wow! What an honour to be a part of it. Well thanks. You've made my day," she said.

Bond producer Barbara Broccoli was also on the train, but she remained tight-lipped on what we can expect from 007 in the future.

She said that there is nothing in the pipeline yet, but we already know two more Bond movies are being planned.

However, for now, we will just have to enjoy Skyfall on DVD or Blu-ray.
